I am a pastor and 5 years ago I lost my wife to ovarian cancer. A few weeks ago my lovely daughter was murdered in her home. I found this book to be a wealth of information and a reservoir of help for me at this most difficult time. I would highly recommend it to anyone that needs or wants to be helpful to others in life's most tragic event, the death of a love one. Death is the last enemy to be destroyed.Product details

Experiencing Grief (Audible Audio Edition) H Norman Wright Tom Parks christianaudiocom Books Reviews
I read this book a month after my mother died. Admittedly, I cried through the first 1/3. But then I found hope and consolation and clarity. It's hard when you're in the middle of grief to believe there's a better day ahead. This little book gave me that hope. I've since bought it for three other people who lost parents.
This little book is a gem. The author writes from the heart of a pastor, the mind of a psychologist, and from personal experience. If you are reading it for yourself it is so small it is a temptation to read it straight through, but don't. Read one chapter and then read it again and again. You do not need to read the chapters in sequence either. Read the ones that jump out at you first. It has nuggets of truth that take time to unpack. I give it to all my patients when they come to me for grief therapy. The best tool for walking through grief.
Very informative. It has and is helping me through a very difficult time. It helps me know that the things I'm going through are normal for this difficult time in my life. It gives me hope that I will come out of it, but yet I know I must go through it to come out. It's been very difficult, but I take one day at a time. I lost the love of my life, my fiance 2 1/2 months ago. It was sudden. So I'm having a difficult time with it and this book has helped me. I would recommend it for anyone going through a loss no matter what kind of loss that is.
Six months after my wife died, I just knew that I was going crazy. I was an emotional wreck. I was going through the motions of life well enough, and was a functioning member of society, but inside I was in agonizing pain and confusion. I found a grief support web site, and looked through some of the recommended books. I bought this one, and I am SOOOO glad I did. I am NOT going crazy. I still hurt. I'm still grieving. But now I understand the nature of grief; I know what to expect; and I know I have better days ahead. This book is small and concise. It does a good job of telling you what you need to know, and then lets you get on with life. With the help of God. This book does not preach, nor does is say to cast all your problems at God's feet and they will go away. What it does is explain grief, and remind us that God walks this lonely path with us. I found it VERY helpful and reassuring.
Norman Wright's perspective on grief is outstanding. He focuses emotions, the process and events that can trigger grief. This short book provides valuable insight on how to cope through grief. "Experiencing Grief" provides practice tools to help a person as they journey through grief. This is a book that I recommend to members in the Grief Share group which I co-facilitate. Randy King, Ed. Honestly you don't buy a book like this because it has an interesting title, you buy it because you are grieving the loss of someone. In my case it was the death of my wife of nearly 36 years. Wright is very insightful about the nature of grief and how each one of us will be struck by it and deal with it in different ways. Many of the chapters deal with topics that will be relevant at different times of the process, either early on or down the road. This is a book I keep on my and refer back to from time to time.
Wright does come from a very deep Christian perspective but don't let that make you shy away from the book. There are no glib answers here. He understands the pain, loneliness and loss that come with the death of a loved one and uses biblical references to relate to those feelings as well as showing that the characters of the Bible shared many of the same experiences that you are now going through. There is no "She's in a better place now" sentiment in here. This book is about you, the person dealing with the grief.
I highly recommend this book.
I am a facilitator for our local GriefShare program. H. Norman Wright is an excellent source of advice and information concerning our grief journey. I’m recommending this book a resource for future attendees of our GriefShare program.
